Undeniably, one of the first reasons why granite makes an excellent choice for pavements is because of its versatility.

Not a lot of people realize it, but granite is available in different shapes and sizes. That makes it easy to incorporate into your home’s design.

Some people use it to mimic a cobblestone pavement, while others use granite tiles to fill out the entire pavement. You can even get granite in irregularly cut forms, and that makes option gives you the freedom to create your ideal pavement pattern.

And it doesn’t end there. Aside from the different cuts that granite stone comes in, it is also available in a variety of colours. When we think of granite, we often think of a grey stone that seems dull and lifeless. But the truth is, granite is also available in subtle hues of black, white, pink, and tan. That means that you’re not just stuck with boring grey – unless that complements your home’s overall aesthetics.

While we’re on the subject of versatility, it’s also worth noting that granite also comes in various finishes. You can pick between smooth and textured finishes, whichever looks best for your pavement. Either way, the natural stone look of granite is bound to elevate any outdoor space.

Without a doubt, granite offers impressive styling options. You’re surely bound to create your ideal pavement floor with this versatile material.

Durable

Another reason to love granite paving is its durability. Granite is known to be one of the hardest materials on earth. The only material known to be harder than it is the diamond – and that says a lot about how durable granite is.

Being a natural stone, granite is not something that easily shatters or cracks. Even when it has been processed to produced brick-like blocks or tiles, granite remains durable and incredibly solid.

As a result, granite is not prone to cracking or scratching. Even if you opt for the smooth finish granite, you don’t have to worry about it suffering from regular wear-and-tear marks. That means that it is bound to last for a long time – if not forever.

Strong Paving Material

Working hand-in-hand with durability is its strength. We have previously mentioned that granite is one of the hardest materials on the face of the earth. It is known to fall at around 6 or 7 according to the Mohs Scale, and that can only prove how rock-solid it is.

This solid construction is thanks to its dense composition – something that we have nature to be thankful for. As a result, it can withstand heavy loads without shattering into pieces.

With that said, you can be confident to use this material for any pavement floor. You can choose to use it as a walkway for your business since heavy foot traffic will leave it unaffected. Similarly, you can opt to use it to pave your driveway, since cars won’t even leave a scratch. And that’s a testament to how sturdy this material can be.

Granite Paving for Your HouseLow Maintenance

When we’re looking for materials for our pavement, one of our primary considerations is how much time is needed for its maintenance. We all want something easy to maintain, and we’re happy to share that granite is one that’s low maintenance.

Being a natural stone, the granite’s lovely colours never fade over time. There’s no need to repaint it now and then since it will always look the same as when it was first installed.

Perhaps the only maintenance job that we have to work on is cleaning out the pavement. For getting rid of mud and dirt, you can simply hose it down once in a while. The frequency of the cleaning depends on how often people walk in and out of the house, but once a month would be ideal.

Also, we have to mention that the surrounding soil can be prone to the growth of weeds. In this case, we recommend keeping an eye out for these growths and plucking them out as soon as possible. Alternatively, you can always fill in the joints to prevent weeds from growing.

But even with the weed problem, granite is still pretty low maintenance compared to the other options.

Eco-Friendly

And finally, granite is known for being eco-friendly and sustainable. Aside from being a natural stone, other factors make granite the eco-friendly choice.

As stated earlier, granite is incredibly durable. This quality allows it to last for a long time. As a result, we do not have to keep replacing them often. That makes it great for the environment and our wallets.

We must also mention that granite is a recyclable material. This could mean two things. First, you can buy recycled granite for your pavement, and second, you can recycle your old granite pavement in case you want to replace them with a different material. Either way, it’s comforting to know that it’s not something that fills our landfills with waste.

But admittedly, granite is not the most affordable paving material out there. However, if we look into all of its advantages, it’s easy to see that its value outweighs its costs. And that makes it a smart investment.
